F2 STAR BRATT STAYS SHARP WITH SHENINGTON KARTING SUCCESS

Banbury racer Will Bratt took time out from his preparations for the final two events of the FIA Formula 2 Championship season with a visit to Shenington Kart Circuit on Sunday, 15th August, where he took a dominant victory in the latest round of the 250cc National Gearbox Karting series.

In the middle of a five week break from F2 action, the 22-year-old seized the opportunity to make an enjoyable return to his local karting venue where he won two of his three Heats and went on to emerge victorious in the 250cc class of the A Final by four seconds.

Forming part of Shenington’s involvement in National Motorsport Week, the event started well for Will and although arriving fresh at the venue on Sunday morning without having practiced he was runner-up in the 250cc class of the first Heat before taking clear wins in Heats Two and Three.

In the Final itself, the Formula One aspirant took victory again and in doing so moved into the top five in the 250cc National Gearbox standings even though he’s only contested four of the seven rounds held so far this year. In addition, he posted the fastest lap in each encounter with a best outright time of 44.59 seconds coming in Heat Three – the only racer to lap sub-45 seconds.

“Sunday was a lot of fun, it’s always great to go back to Shenington and drive the Gearbox kart and to win is always the icing on the cake”, said Will, “We’re in the middle of a fairly long break in the F2 calendar at the moment so it’s good to keep sharp by competing.”

The penultimate event of the 2010 FIA Formula 2 Championship season will take place just under three weeks from now, 4th/5th September, at Oschersleben in Germany. Heading into rounds 15 and 16 of the campaign Will is locked in a tight battle for the third in the standings with Philipp Eng.
